There are a lot of answers to answer the question: “What defines a company?”. Some may say it’s the purpose or set of values that guide its actions, while others may point to its processes or the technology it uses. All of these answers are partly correct but a company is truly defined by the sum of its people.
In the end, a company is only as good as the people within it and 1UP is filled with a great bunch of them.
Today is Valentine’s Day, aka the day of cheesy love cards and grand gestures. Since I’m half French, it only made sense to give my own cheesy (see what I did there?) appreciation message to the people at 1UP and made it public as a grand gesture. So here it is, in alphabetical order:
Amir: Since Halloween, your performance has been dino-mite. I’ve really enjoyed collaborating with you on our SEO services and processes. You are organized with a logical mind and have the perfect mix of technical and creative skills. You elevate the whole team around you and I look forward to more collaboration.
Ivan: You only started recently but have already impressed us with your sense of initiative, leadership, and the quality of your work. I love that you like using GIFs almost as much as I do. Looking forward to a Kelowna visit this summer!
James: It’s been awesome to watch you grow since you started with us. Your attention to detail is second to none. You are hard-working, dedicated, kind, and fun to be around. To many more years together!
Juliet: As Our first hire outside of operations, you have set the bar really high! You are a go-getter with an awesome attitude, and an eagerness to learn and get things done. You always do it with a smile on your face and bring great energy to the team. Go, Juliet!
Mackenzie: You started with us 3 weeks before Covid hit the world and it’s been a wild ride ever since. It’s been awesome watching you grow and blossom (I had to use gardening terms for yours) and turn into a confident kick-ass marketer. You are kind and genuine and we are blessed to count you as a key member of the 1UP team.
Mark: You came to a 1UP event even before you started so it shows that you are eager and have an appetite for growth. I look forward to seeing where you take your career within 1UP!
Phil: The yin to my yang. It’s been almost a decade and I wouldn’t change a thing (well, maybe one or two but hindsight is 2020)! I couldn’t have asked for a better co-founder and a better friend.
Sam: You’ve been a unicorn since day 1, hitting the ground running and never stopping since. You are a force of nature and a beautiful genuine human being. I’ve really enjoyed working by your side and look forward to a bright future together.
In general, Phil and I wanted to say (he approves of this message:) that we appreciate each and every one of you. You bring a lot to the company and I hope 1UP gives you at least twice as much back!
